Small coastal settlement at the southwestern end of the Messinian Gulf with the main attractions being the Venetian castle at the top and the picturesque port at the foot of the settlement. Start at the castle, which is still inhabited today.
Stroll through the whitewashed alleys with the village houses and courtyards with geraniums and enjoy the breathtaking views. Going down to the port, the ouzos with the hanging octopuses in a row will whet your appetite.
Within the settlement you will find the basic services, while the hotel infrastructure is mainly limited to simple hotels, rentals and campsites on the surrounding beaches.
In the summer, boats depart from the port for the surrounding beaches, the deserted Schiza, Sapienza and Venetiko and the nearby settlements. Pylos and Methoni are classic options for an excursion, completing the puzzle of the castle states of Messinia.
