One of the best-known nature-loving destinations in Messinia is Polylimnio. It is located in the center of the prefecture very close to the road that connects Kalamata with Pylos. It is a beautiful complex of lakes, running waters, impressive waterfalls and a unique nature in an area that does not predict what you are about to encounter. Polylimnio has become famous in recent years and has been attracting a large number of visitors for a decade.
Access is easy via dirt and paved roads. There are also infrastructure projects: parking, signage, information signs, kiosks and tables (although today in some places they need maintenance). The path runs alongside the stream and in many places there are iron steps and stakes to aid the crossing.
Polylimnio is a summer destination. When the heat rises the temperature to very high levels the cool waters of the lakes and the river are an ideal shelter. Here you can swim, dive and "play" with the water feature. Polylimnio is a summer destination and for one more important reason. In the winter months and sometimes until late Spring the waters are swollen, or their level has risen, they have covered the path which becomes impassable.
