Ιερό Απόλλωνος Κορύθου

At the port of Longas in Messinia, Agios Andreas, buildings from successive building phases have been excavated, dating from the geometric to late Roman times. According to the common confession of scholars and based on epigraphic evidence, these ruins are identified with the Sanctuary of Apollo Korythos or Corinth. According to the traditions of Ancient Messina, Apollo Korythos was a god - healer of diseases.

The traveler Pausanias, whose work also describes Ancient Messinia in detail, mentions the Sanctuary of Apollo Korythos in the "Messinians". He describes the ancient temple, while also talking about a "xoanus" that was there, dedicated to the healer Apollo Corinth by the Argonauts.

A bronze warrior figurine found in the Sanctuary of Apollo Korythos is dated to 540-520 BC. and is one of the most valuable findings. He wears a Corinthian helmet, breastplate, tunic and shins.

An early Christian basilica was found on the Sanctuary of Apollo Korythos which was excavated in 1913 to investigate the ancient monument.
