Next to the south-west end of the Venetian fortress of Koroni, the beautiful church of the Most Holy Theotokos of Elestria has been founded. Our Lady Elestria is the patroness of Koroni. When one is there in this location one feels an indescribable mental pleasure due to the magnificent natural spectacle in front of him.
All the inhabitants honor her and many believers come to the temple to embrace her image. Many miracles have been performed with the help of the miller according to the residents. The icon of Eleestria was found on January 22, 1897, after a vision of a pious old woman from Koroni by Maria Stathakis.
This woman saw for 15 years continuously in her sleep, like a vision, the divine form of the Mother of God, who indicated to her the place where three small images of the Crucified, the Mother of God and the evangelist Luke would be found through excavations. The images were sculpted, like statuettes.
The composition of all three forms the current image of Eleistria. It is noteworthy that under the temple of Eleistria there is a small church, which surprises the visitor and devout pilgrim, it is the holy rock where the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary was found, which is how it got its name.
